About yourself:
My name is Ektara and my pronouns are she)/her. I am a woman of transgender experience. Having lived a life of pretending to be a man for twenty five years, my life took a sweet turn when I came out and transitioned medically and socially. I have completed my graduation from Delhi University and am current working as an actor and emcee.
About your profession:
Why did you choose it?
I was always fascinated by stage and performances. I’m good at public speaking and emoting. I find comfort in characters so I chose be one.
Please share about your achievements-
My biggest achievement would be that of finding myself and being courageous about it. I have only begun to LIVE and so the material achievements and recognitions are on their way.
Who is your role model & why?
Begum Akhtar. She is a legendary singer who’s life inspired me because she turned her pain into magic. Her life story is truly inspiring. She was born to a mother who was a courtesan. Her father abandoned her at the age of four, her sister died short after, she was sexually abused at thirteen and became a mother because of that. She got married to a lawyer and went through a lot of miscarriages. Her undeniable spirit which reflects in her music is what truly inspires me.
What message would like to give to the current generation / world?-
The world will tell you to not take up spaces because they think it belongs to them. Take your space, anyway. This world is as much yours as it is theirs.
